Testing? Testing? Alright, the transmitter can still pick me up. Doubt it's phoning home but at least I can keep recordings.
This
is Engineer six-three-oh-dee-ee-niner. I've become marooned on a small
island, in an endless... sea Creatures that look like whales with too
many fins float off in the distance and I see structures that resemble
coral. My sleep patterns suggest it's been about 3 days, but I can't even tell in here.
Emergency rations ran out yesterday, and I've scoured
every inch of this rock to try and find something to eat. The "plants" dissolve into dust at a touch and taste like ash and salt. Only other thing here is those bugs with the eyes on their backs. Absolutely not.
Surely there has to be some way out of here. That portal got me in, I just need to find a way back out.

Testing?
Testing? This makes... too many days, if my watch is even accurate anymore. I rigged together a hand-crank charger for
the transmitter. Solar battery doesn't work in this light, so it was
draining, fast. Glad I can keep this thing on, getting my thoughts
out helps keep my head screwed on a bit straighter.
To be honest, I'm not sure I can keep this up much longer. I keep convincing myself to take one more lap around the island, keep thinking maybe I've missed something. Every time, it's ''this time I'll be more thorough, something will turn up,'' but nothing ever does. I'm... getting pretty tired. Keep catching myself fixating on the past, picking over all the choices I could have made that wouldn't end up... here.
If you can believe it, I was actually a student working on the initial concepts for matter replication tech. It seemed like an impossible dream at the time, breaking down atoms and rearranging them into desired molecules, en masse, with perfect control. From what I'd seen before I joined the rescue mission, there were still efforts being made to miniaturize the tech. Could you imagine how handy a pocket-sized replicator would have been a few days ago?
But that's just not in the cards. Daydreaming about it won't fix a thing, and I really ought to be spending my time better. I'll figure something out. Just need to get some rest, and then I'll work on... something. There's gotta be something else I can do about the food situation.

Testing? Engineer six-three-oh-dee-ee-niner, putting out a broadcast on
every frequency I can tune to. I need assistance. I have been trapped on this
island for days and supplies are long spent. Anyone, ANYONE Please, get me out of
here...

Testing... testing... I've captured one of the eye bugs. I'm hoping I can just eat around any strange looking parts and be fine. Only problem is this entire thing looks strange. I've got no other options now, so this meal goes out to ''maybe not dying tonight''.
