This one acts nothing like the others.
I've been tracking a new specimen for the past few days. This one just wanders; searches, maybe. Maybe it has a particular target in mind. The others are unrelenting, they comb through every plant and creature they come across, and... take them away.
This one seems very different in build to the others, as well. We've noted the similarity of these creatures to terrestrial crustaceans and other marine life. This specimen shares such similarities, but it is much smaller. Its ability to curl up inside of its shell shows it possesses defensive capabilities unseen in the others. This lends credence to my hypothesis that this specimen is very specialized.
One part I can't wrap my head around is some of its other behaviors.
When passing a body of water, it looks down and stares at its reflection, seemingly puzzled. It's almost like a baby looking into a mirror for the first time.
I've seen it poking and prodding at rocks and other pieces of junk on the ground. It will pick up an item to inspect, or knock it away and chase after it, in a manner I can only describe as playing.
Every night, it halts its patrols and finds a hill or ridge, and just sits there, staring at the stars. Funnily enough, that's exactly what I do when I just want to relax and ponder.
One supposition comes to mind, but I don't think I want to consider what that may mean. Further observation will be necessary to confirm.
